Bird owner's checklist:
What you need prior to bringing home your new bird


     
 

Before you bring your bird home, make sure that you have the following items:

Housing
• Cage-appropriate size for your bird
• Variety of perches
• Cage Cover-to assist in bedtime routine and protect your bird from cold drafts
• Extra set of food and water dishes to rotate when cleaning
• Treat dishes

Cleaning
• Newspaper or cage floor covering
• Hand held vacuum
• Linoleum or washable rug to place under the cage
• Pet safe cleaner
• Scrubber brush to be used only on the bird’s cage

First Aid
• Styptic powder to stop bleeding
• Gauze

Grooming
• Small, sharp scissors
• Water bottle set on mist
• Small tub or dish for bathing your bird

Food
• Some feed that the bird was used to eating at the breeder or pet store when bought
• Pellets
• Variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (no avocado, it’s toxic)
• Cuttlebone, mineral or calcium block.
• Healthy treats or millet spray
